Steps to Generate a CSR in IIS 4.x Server

  • Step 1 – In Windows Start Menu, run 'Management Console'.
  • Step 2 – In this step, you need to expand the Internet Information Server along with computer name that you intend to secure.
  • Step 3 – Now, right-click on the website that you're securing and select 'Properties'.
  • Step 4 – Open Directory Security.
  • Step 5 – Under Secure Communications, click on Key Manager and select 'Create New Key'.
  • Step 6 – Select 'Put the request in a file…' and select a filename or accept the default name.
  • Step 7 – Enter the required information regarding your organization/company.
  • Step 8 – Proceed with clicking Next until you're done, the click 'Finish'. When prompted to save changes, click 'Yes'.
  • Step 9 – Finally, open the newly created CSR with a text editor (i.e. Notepad) and copy/paste the text (including the BEGINNING and END tags) in the blank text box provided in the online SSL generation form via www.thesslstore.com.
  • Step 10 – After you complete validation and receive the SSL certificate from the issuing Certificate Authority, proceed with the next step using our SSL installation instructions.
